Summary of the Italian Society of Hair Restoration:
Three Lectures on Low Level Laser Therapy were featured at the XII International Congress held in Milan, Italy May 31-June 2, 2007
The afternoon was greeted by Dr. Martin Unger of Toronto, Canada, discussing low level laser therapy (LLLT) for hair restoration therapy. Dr. Unger reviewed much of the clinical data regarding the benefits of LLLT. He stressed the safety and biological effects for hair restoration surgery. Based on FDA studies, his viewpoint is that LLLT is better than Propecia and/or Minoxidil and should therefore be regarded as a standard of care for treatment.
Dr. Alan Bauman of Boca Raton, Florida also discussed the multi-therapy approach of LLLT utilizing the combination therapy approach of laser, transplant, Propecia, and Minoxidil to give the maximum benefits to patients.
Dr. Bob Leonard of Cranston, Rhode Island gave a presentation on the general approaches to hair loss in woman including the use of Minoxidil, Low Level Laser Therapy and camouflage agents.
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) is the largest non-profit voluntary organization comprised of more than 650 hair restoration physicians and 125 surgical assistants with backgrounds in varying medical specialties, including dermatology, plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, general surgery, and others. It was founded in 1993 as the first international society to promote continuing quality improvement and education for professionals in the field of hair restoration surgery.
